Gentry's summer essentials: Michael Bastian
Wondering what to wear this summer? Gentry’s special summerwear series will hook you up with the hottest clothes and the coolest designers… starting with Michael Bastian.

It’s rolling around to that time of year when you’re forced to evaluate the terrible decisions you made last summer. I’m not just talking about the girl you regretfully engaged or the baby in the crib next door, but – more importantly – all of those awful t-shirts mocking you from the darkest depths of your bottom drawer, not to mention the shorts that look fit for a boy scout.
Only football mangers and Prime Ministers age quicker than last year’s summerwear, so if you’re looking for s few hot new additions to your wardrobe, we’re happy to nudge you in the direction of the delectable Michael Bastian – a very stylish New York designer.
Five years as men’s fashion director for Bergdorf Goodman would give any astute chap enough insight into the intricate mind of the cool hunting male. But Michael Bastion designs from the heart and his idiosyncratic collection reflects his own very particular tastes more than anything you might have come across on the high street.
There seems to be a distinct “vintage sportswear” theme running through his designs… a kind of 70s tennis / 80s skier mash-up that translates into a peculiarly attractive (and immensely popular) clothing line.
Here are a few choice items from Bastion’s exciting Spring/Summer 09 collection . The beguiling looks he creates in windows number 3, 7 and 9 are an absolute dream. Perfect for those who want to create a little more heat in the summer sun.
Enjoy…
