This Week: Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 – Many Things

Sean Kuti

The first release from Seun Kuti, son of the legendary Fela, sees the youngest of the clan step effortlessly into his father's beat battered shoes…

The youngest and most daring son of the notorious Nigerian Afrobeat innovator Fela Kuti, Seun seems to have bided his time before stepping into the glaring spotlight that has remained vacant after Fela's death in 1997.

Seun's brother Femi was the first to take the plunge, and if this strutting debut by his sibling is anything to go by, he'll do well to keep apace. As both a singer and musician, Seun is far more of a chip off the old maverick's block than Femi, and with a rougher and more astute sounding vocal delivery. And with his pop's old band Egypt 80 backing him all the way, he's an immense force to be reckoned with. Expect greater things to follow.

Stand out tracks include the tough Don't Give that Shit To Me and the hot hot heat of Fire Dance. A perfect remedy to the bitter winter chill, Many Things is an incredible piece of funk noir.
